>I think that bad leadership can very easily exist. In the absence of leadership you would not be led anywhere. But with bad leadership you could be led in the wrong direction.Burns said leadership should be measured against human desires such as liberty, equality, justice, opportunity and the pursuit of happiness. This clearly doesn't apply to all leaders. He was talking about political leadership. Yet even here would you call it an absence of leadership if someone were to lead you away from these goals? If that were true then none of the most famous leaders in history were leaders. Hence for me bad leadership does exist.A more apt way of thinking about leadership is to think about different types, and to distinguish management from leadership. What distinguishes the second from the first is vision and goals. A leader leads people toward something. A great leader has great vision of what that future can bring, as well as great abilities to lead the followers into that future.
